American Airlines looks to return to Venezuela flights in April

American Airlines plans to resume nonstop flights between Miami and Caracas as soon as April 30, pending final regulatory approvals and security clearances, as it works with authorities in both the US and Venezuela to restore service.

The airline said it intends to operate a daily service using Embraer 175 aircraft, flown by its regional subsidiary Envoy, marking the first planned reconnection between the two countries by a US carrier since flights were suspended in May 2019. Direct flights between the two countries were suspended under the first administration of US President Donald Trump.

The move follows recent progress with regulators and comes after the lifting of long-standing restrictions on US–Venezuela air travel, although operations remain subject to government approval and airport security assessments.

American, which began serving Venezuela in 1987 and was previously the largest US airline in the market, said the route will support business, leisure and humanitarian travel while helping reconnect families and commercial ties between the two countries.
