Hydrogen-electric aircraft developer ZeroAvia has will establish a research and development facility focussed on liquid hydrogen refuelling at Stockton Metropolitan Airport in San Joaquin County, California. The airport's board of supervisors approved the lease for ZeroAvia on February 11, 2025.

“Stockton Metropolitan Airport provides us with an excellent environement to continue our work on liquid hydrogen refuelling systems for hydrogen aircraft in California,” said ZeroAvia CEO Val Miftakhov. “Along with high temperature fuel cells and advanced electric motors, liquid hydrogen systems are a critical building block for scaling hydrogen-electric engines into ever larger aircraft."

Stockton airport director Richard Sokol said: “As we look toward the future of aviation, we recognize the importance of supporting and collaborating with companies that are making tangible strides in green energy. ZeroAvia's work will contribute to a more sustainable transportation industry.”

ZeroAvia will progress its California Energy Commission (CEC) supported project to design, build and test rapid liquid hydrogen (LH2) refuelling vehicles for aviation and other heavy-duty applications.
