Wizz Air is planning to cancel some flights to inspect aircraft engines, affecting its flight schedule at London Luton and Gatwick airport. The move comes on the backdrop of Pratt & Whitney recalling its engines on several Airbus aircraft last month. The recall has already affected operations of Air New Zealand, Spirit Airlines and IndiGo.
According to London World, Wizz Air plans to inspect the engines at an accelerated rate but, the process will still impact flights.
“Wizz Air announces today that due to the accelerated inspections of several of our GTF engines mandated by Pratt & Whitney, we have made adjustments to the network resulting in cancellations of some flights on selected days between certain destinations,” confirmed Spokesperson, Wizz Air.
As of now it is not clear as to which routes from Luton or Gatwick will be affected however the airline will contact the passengers directly if the inspections impact their upcoming flights and offer full refund in case of cancellations.
“Passengers on the affected flights will be offered an alternative flight schedule, provided full refunds in the original method of payment, or offered 120% of the original fare in airline reservation credit,” the spokesperson explained.
As of March 2023, of this year, Wizz Air operated flights to 63 destinations in 27 countries from the London Luton, and in 2022, more than 6 million passengers flew on the airline. The airline also expanded its operation, adding new routes to Amman, Bydgoszcz, Lodz, and Istanbul earlier this year. From London to Istanbul alone, the carrier has more than 20 daily flights scheduled this summer.
