Wizz Air passenger numbers reached 60.3 million in 2023, a record high for the low-cost Hungarian carrier, representing a 32% increase compared to 2022.
Rising passenger numbers were helped by a 23% increase in capacity for the airline, which introduced over 10 new routes from the UK. Flights to and from the UK totalled over 59,000, 11% more than in 2022. Overall, Wizz Air launched nearly a hundred new routes.
The airline also took delivery of 32 brand new A321neo aircraft, taking its total fleet (a combination of A320 and A321 types) to 196. In 2023, these flew approximately 263 million kilometres combined. Wizz Air completed 99.31% of its scheduled flights in 2023, placing it third best among all European airlines, as well as ranking within the top three for on-time performance in the region.
“We are proud to have finished 2023 with record passenger numbers, an ever-evolving network, advanced fleet and enhanced operational performance,” said Zsuzsa Trubek, corporate communication manager at Wizz Air. “We will celebrate 20 years of affordable travel with Wizz Air in 2024, and we can’t wait to share more exciting adventures with passengers”.
