Wizz Air first to implement two new Airbus training solutions
Wizz Air has become the first airline to adopt the Mobile Airbus Training experience (MATe) suite and Virtual Procedure Trainer (VPT) technology for pilot training, which have both been integrated into the airline’s training centre in Budapest. The solutions will support pilots undergoing initial and recurrent type training. While the cloud-based service platform MATe offers ‘e-training and exams for different pilot training categories’, the VPT software solution ‘immerses and coaches pilot trainees within a virtual cockpit individually, allowing them to rehearse or familiarise themselves with the Airbus cockpit features and respective procedures’. The VR tool and A320 type transition course programme (based on the MATe tool) have both been approved by the Hungarian Civil Aviation Suthority. “This market-leading technology will not only revolutionise the way we train our staff but the whole industry as well,” commented Attila Tóvári, Head of ATO at Wizz Air. Charbel Youzkatli, head of commercial services Europe at Airbus, added that “MATe Suite and VPT training solutions offer pilots an immersive experience and more flexible and efficient training”. Wizz Air is planning to train 4,000 flight deck crew by 2030 to meet its fleet expansion goals.
