All flights out of London's Stansted Airport were suspended for a time overnight on December 11-12 due to snow on the runway, while Gatwick and Heathrow saw some flights cancelled and others delayed.
"Our runway is temporarily closed whilst we undertake snow clearing. We remain open but passengers should contact their airline for the latest flight information," Stansted announced in the early hours of December 12.
"Snow and freezing weather is causing some delays and cancellations at the airport today", Gatwick said, advising passengers "to check flight status with their airline - and also local travel conditions - before departing for the airport".
Around 50 flights were cancelled at Heathrow Airport on December 11. The airport had earlier warned of disruption to trains running to and from the airport from December 13 - 18 due to strikes by rail workers.
Aviation analytics firm Cirium said on December 12 that over 300 flights, or 11% of the total, were cancelled at UK airports over the weekend.
Walk-outs by border officials could see further disruption for travellers during Christmas, with the UK government set to deploy soldiers to airports to operate in place of striking officials.
