Winnipeg Richardson International Airport crosses one million passenger mark in Q2

Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG) saw 1,020,721 passengers in the last three month from April to June 2023, recording 93.3% of the pre-pandemic levels. For the first time since the pandemic, the airport crossed the threshold of one million passengers in a single quarter.

The airport recorded its busiest day in June 30, with over 15,800 passengers passing through the airport gates.

Expressing his delight over strong passenger numbers Nick Hays, president and chief executive said: “These figures have surpassed expectations and signify a significant milestone in the recovery process. The recovery is attributed not only to the pent-up demand for travel but also to the dedication of the resilient team at the airport and unwavering support from partners, both of which have enabled the airport to meet the community’s needs effectively. We are looking forward for further collaboration as more travelers pass through the airport.”

Recently, YWG reintroduced popular summer seasonal services to Kelowna and Victoria. Flair Airlines launched a new route connecting the airport to London, Ontario.

Going ahead WestJet will commence its year-round service to Atlanta while Porter will start flights connecting Toronto-Pearson.

In the second quarter of 2023, WAA’s reported an increase in consolidated revenue of nearly 21% reaching $39.9 million while the rarnings before interest, depreciation, and taxes increased from $16.19 million to $19.76 million when compared to the same period in 2022.
