Wheels Up chief financial officer (CFO) Todd Smith will be leaving the company for a new role, the company said on August 21, 2024. While the company searches for its new CFO, its SVP of finance Eric Cabezas will act as interim CFO for the second time at the company, having done so in 2022.
Cabezas joined Wheels Up in 2019. ""As we conduct our search for Todd's replacement, we would like to thank Eric for stepping into the role of interim CFO for the second time in his tenure at Wheels Up,"" said the company's CEO George Mattson. ""I have worked extensively with Eric and have every confidence in his ability to lead our finance team as we continue down the path to becoming a profitable and resilient business.""
In addition, Wheels Up chief legal officer Laura Heltebran will be departing to pursue other opportunities. From September 9, 2024, Delta Air Lines senior vice president and deputy general counsel Matthew Knopf will succeed Heltebran. Knopf has served Delta since 2015.
""Over the last nine years, Matthew has played a pivotal leadership role in the completion of Delta's many significant transactions and key joint venture restructurings,"" said Mattson. He continued: ""His impressive breadth of experience built during his over 35-year legal career, along with his deep knowledge of the industry and our company, will undoubtedly ensure a seamless transition as Matthew assumes his new role.""
Wheels Up’s second quarter 2024 revenue was $196 million, down 41% in comparison to the same period a year prior. Its net loss improved slightly from the second quarter last year to $97.4 million.
