Volaris reports 2.8 million passengers in March as overseas demand climbs

Volaris said it carried 12.6% more passengers in March 2023 compared to a year before, with 12.6 million people travelling with the Mexican budget carrier.

"Capacity increased by 17.1% year-over-year, while demand increased by 15.7%," the airline reported, with the numbers leaving ti with a load factor drop of one percentage point to 85.5%.

International demand was up over 35% year-on-year, the company said. Despite higher fuel prices over the time, the 11/3% difference meant a more recent decline, with fuel 7.3% less pricey compared with the fourth quarter of 2022.

“Overall traffic figures were healthy in March, with strength in the US trans-border and central America demand offsetting close-in demand softness on our domestic routes, said Enrique Beltranena, the carrier's president.

"This also confirms the strategic importance of our central American expansion, which has allowed Volaris to grow with profitability to the United States despite the limitations associated with Mexico’s Category 2 status," added Beltranena, who is also the chief executive.
