Virgin Australia, the only Australian airline operating flights into Vanuatu following Air Vanuatu going into liquidation last week, has increased its services between Brisbane and Vanuatu from two flights per week to five, at the government's request.
""We were saddened to learn of Air Vanuatu being placed into liquidation,"" said a Virgin Australia spokesperson.
The spokesperson confirmed that ""at the request of the Australian Government to lift capacity, Virgin Australia will increase the number of services between Brisbane and Vanuatu by two flights per week to five per week for the remainder of May and June.""
The airline is seeking to increase its seat capacity between Australia and Vanuatu, with it planning to commence a further seven weekly flights from east coast gateways into Vanuatu. It has applied to the International Air Services Commission for approval.
