Virgin Australia has increased its order of 737 MAX-8s by an additional six airframes, bringing its total MAX-8 order to 14.
The six new aircraft are scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2024 with the latest example, designated ‘Bronte Beach’, set to arrive in the airline’s home city of Brisbane. The outstanding 11 MAX-8 aircraft will arrive throughout 2024, equating to almost one delivery a month for the entirety of the year. Virgin Australia’s existing order of 25 MAX-10 aircraft (with an expected delivery from late 2025) remains unchanged.
The new MAX additions will help the airline maintain one of the youngest commercial fleets in Australia, with an average age of 11.7 years. Additionally Virgin Australia will imminently commence work on a a $110 million interior refresh and product upgrade across the airline’s existing 737s, with the first refitted aircraft due to come out of maintenance in early December.
