Virgin Atlantic has appointed Alex Alexander as its new Chief Digital & Information Officer (CDIO), as the airline accelerates its digital and artificial intelligence (AI) strategy.
Alexander will join on 13 April, taking responsibility for technology, digital development, data and transformation as part of the airline’s executive leadership team. He brings more than two decades of experience across aviation, retail and AI-driven platforms, including senior roles at Emirates Group, Adevinta and Yoox Net-A-Porter.
The appointment comes as Virgin Atlantic ramps up investment in digital capabilities to improve customer experience and operational efficiency. The airline recently launched a new app featuring an AI-powered travel planning tool, alongside partnerships with technology firms including Microsoft and Databricks.
Chief executive Corneel Koster said Alexander’s expertise would support the airline’s push to deliver a more seamless digital experience and operate more efficiently.
Alexander said he saw a “huge opportunity to accelerate” the airline’s digital journey and expand its use of AI across the business.
Nick Diesel, who has been serving as interim CDIO, will return full-time to his role as managing director of Virgin Atlantic Cargo in June.
