Virgin Atlantic follows Emirates by offering free COVID insurance

Virgin Atlantic became the second carrier after Emirates to offer free COVID insurance on its flights as the struggling airlines looks to reboot its business in the face of the pandemic.

The carrier is adding free COVID 19 cover to every existing booking, as well as new bookings made for travel between August 24 2020 to March 31 2021.

Designed to be an extension to traveller’s own travel insurance, Virgin’s Covid 19 policy means the airline will  take care of the health and quarantine costs that could arise, should a passenger contract the virus. The cover includes up to £500,000 necessary and emergency expenses incurred due to Coronavirus impacting passengers travel.

The policy will also pick up the tab if a passenger denied boarding or individually requested to quarantine their destination and also for repatriation. Unlike typical travel cover, Virgin’s policy has no excess.
