Virgin Atlantic accelerates Starlink rollout with full fleet connectivity targeted by 2027

The airline said installations will begin on its Airbus A350 aircraft from May, with the entire A350 fleet expected to be equipped by early summer. The first passenger flight featuring the service is scheduled to operate from London Heathrow to New York JFK in early May.

The rollout will then extend to the Boeing 787 fleet in the second half of 2026, followed by the Airbus A330neo, with installations on the latter expected to be completed in 2027. By the end of 2026, around two-thirds of the fleet is expected to be equipped with the system.

Virgin Atlantic first announced the partnership in 2025, becoming the first UK airline to commit to free, fleet-wide Starlink connectivity. The service will be offered at no cost to members of the airline’s Flying Club loyalty programme.

The move reflects growing competition among airlines to improve onboard connectivity, with Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellite network enabling faster speeds and lower latency compared with traditional inflight Wi-Fi systems.

The airline said the service is designed to support a wide range of passenger use cases, including streaming, gaming and work-related connectivity, as carriers increasingly position onboard internet as a core part of the customer experience.

The accelerated rollout also aligns with broader industry trends, as airlines invest in digital infrastructure to enhance passenger satisfaction and differentiate their premium offering, particularly on long-haul routes.
