Vietnam Airlines has resumed its popular route connecting Hanoi and Hong Kong almost after three years. The airline will initially commence thrice weekly flights with plans for further expansion as Hong Kong lifts its pandemic restrictions.
The move comes over two months after Hong Kong authorities eased entry requirements, meaning foreign visitors no longer need to quarantine in a hotel. However, there are still multiple restrictions for international visitors like pre-flight rapid antigen tests and three days of home medical supervision.
Going ahead, Hong Kong International Airport recently formally opened its third runway which will significantly increase its daily capacity as part of a wider $18 billion development plan. The airport revealed that capacity is likely to remain at 60-70% of pre-pandemic levels over 2023, but anticipates a full recovery the year after a year.
Vietnam Airlines recently resumed its services to China after a hiatus of almost three years. The airline now operates flights to Shanghai from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and Guangzhou. The airline also claims to have reinstated 70% of its pre-pandemic international capacity with 600 international flights per week.
