VietJet has resumed direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong from February 10, 2023, strengthening its Asia-Pacific network as restrictions are lifted. The airline resumes these flights after a hiatus of almost three years and six months after both the countries lifted their individual pandemic restrictions for international passengers.
The airline is operating its Airbus A320neo on the twice weekly flight providing 460 weekly seats between the two countries. The airline is planning additional network expansion in coming months within Asia-Pacific.
Going ahead, VietJet plans on restoring its China capacity to pre-pandemic levels by June 2023 and plans on operating at least 100 flights between Vietnam and China by the end of 2023. With this schedule, VietJet will expand its China capacity by 30% of its pre-pandemic capacity.
Nguyễn Thanh Sơn, VP, Vietnam Airlines, said: “Before the pandemic, we held nearly 50% of the total air traffic between Vietnam and China. With China being open to international travel again this year, VietJet plans to reclaim its throne as the largest airline operating within the two countries and become bigger than ever."
Besides China, the airline is also planning major expansion to key Asia-Pacific destinations like India, South Korea, Japan and Australia.
