VietJet plans robust international expansion with India, Australia in focus

Vietjet is all set to commence its first ever direct flight from Perth to Ho Chi Minh City bringing the total flights operated by VietJet between Australia and Vietnam to 19. The flights will commence starting November 21, 2023 with twice weekly frequency.

Besides VietJet also commenced a direct route connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Jakarta marking VietJet’s third direct service to Indonesia.

In addition to the new Ho Chi Minh City – Jakarta route, the airline will also increase flights between Bali, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, offering 84 flights a week between Vietnam and Indonesia from August 12. These direct route promises to provide convenient and seamless travel options for both business and leisure travelers, further strengthening the ties between the two countries.

VietJet is also eyeing expanding its India network with thrice weekly, direct flight between Ho Chi Minh City and Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu) from November 2, 2023. With the addition of this new route, the airline will now operate 35 weekly return flights between India and Vietnam, connecting big cities in India — Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kochi and Tiruchirappalli and the Southeast Asian country

Interestingly the airline has more than quadrupled the number of passengers carried between Vietnam and India compared to last year.

The airline has launched 11 new international routes in the second quarter of 2023, resulting in a significant increase in international traffic, carrying 3.5 million passengers in the first half of the year.

Apart from the above, certain airline sources have claimed that VietJet is about to resume its direct flights connecting Phuket in South Thailand to Chiang Rai, a town in far north Thailand from October 29, however official announcement on the route is awaited.
