Vietjet has ordered 20 A330neos after signing a memorandum of understanding with Airbus and selected RTX's Pratt & Whitney for options for an additional 19 confirmed GTF-powered A321neos. P&W will provide the airline with engine maintenance through a comprehensive service agreement. The A330neo order is the largest widebody purchase from Vietjet so far.
Airbus commercial aircraft business CEO Christian Scherer said the order will be ""the perfect complement to the A321XLRs already on order with the airline"".
""The new A330neo aircraft is a strategic addition to comprehensively modernise Vietjet's fleet, enhancing operational capabilities to support our global flight network expansion plan,"" Vietjet CEO Dinh Viet Phuong. ""We are confident about the GTF-powered aircraft that provide fuel efficiency and reduce the environmental impact,"" he added.
The A330neo is powered by the Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. Vietjet also currently operates a fleet of 24 GTF-powered A321neo aircraft. Vietjet has committed up to total of 87 aircraft of this type.
