VietJet is planning a robust expansion of its operations to India with two additional flights connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Ahmedabad, Gujrat. This is the first direct flight connecting Vietnam with Gujrat. VietJet claims that these latest routes provide more options to the passengers from West India planning on flying to Vietnam.
Prior to 2019, the passenger traffic from India to Vietnam was negligible, but post-pandemic Vietnam scrapped all quarantine and other COVID-related travel restrictions to boost tourism.
In June 2022, VietJet made a big announcement of starting direct flights from the coastal city of Da Nang to five Indian cities namely New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad.
Just recently VietJet introduced a flight from Phú Quốc to metros like Delhi and Mumbai to cash in on the tourist demand. Phú Quốc is an island and a tourist beach destination. In June 2022, VietJet introduced direct flights from Hanoi (thrice weekly) and Ho Chi Minh City (four times weekly) to Mumbai.
VietJet resumed its flights to Delhi from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi on April 2022 with three weekly return flights.
As of now, VietJet operates an all-Airbus fleet but this picture will soon change with the introduction of the 737-10 Max. VietJet has placed a firm order of 200 737-10 Max with deliveries starting from 2024. With this fleet modernisation strategy, the airline plans to strengthen its roots to other Asian destinations.
