V2500 SERIES UPGRADE BURNS LESS FUEL

International Aero Engines upgrade in its V2500 series – SelectTwo – promises a significant fuel burn saving. The gain comes from a software upgrade for the electronic engine control unit, as well as a new data entry plug, that will boost fuel burn savings by 0.58%. SelectTwo will be available as an option for V2500-A5 SelectOne engines with a service entry for 2013. IAE says it is working with Airbus for flight tests to be done by the end of 2011.

IAE calculates that for a 10-aircraft Airbus A320 fleet flying 2,300 flights per year, the upgrade will save $4.3 million over 10 years, at March 2011 fuel prices. The corresponding drop in carbon dioxide emissions will be 14,800 tons. SelectTwo will meet CAEP/6 NOx standards.
