Uzbekistan Airways has announced the single largest order of aircraft in the airline's history.
Yesterday, the Uzbekistan flag carrier confirmed that it has signed a firm order with Boeing for 14 787-9 Dreamliners with eight options.
The agreement is part of the airline’s long-term fleet modernisation and its strategy to enhance long-haul capacity. Deliveries will commence in 2031.
The airline said the expansion of its widebody fleet will enable it to boost capacity on key routes, strengthen schedule reliability, and grow its network by connecting Central Asia with North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
The project aligns with the Uzbekistan–2030 national development programme, and supports the airline’s strategic goal of positioning Tashkent, the country’s capital and largest city, as a leading international transit hub.
Uzbekistan Airways, the first operator of the 787 in Central Asia, has utilised the aircraft type for almost a decade, having received its first 787-8 Dreamliner in 2016.
Since then, the airline said the Dreamliner has been the “backbone” of its fleet and has provided a “vital bridge” from Uzbekistan to the rest of the world.
The new order for the 787-9 will provide greater range and significant fuel savings, the company added, thanks to the aircraft’s advanced aerodynamics and next-generation engines.
Finally, Boeing has also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Uzbek Ministry of Transport to explore opportunities to further develop the country's aviation ecosystem.
