US travel agencies air ticket sales reach $8.9bn in February
February 2024 air ticket sales made by US travel agencies have totalled $8.9bn, the Airlines Reporting Corp (ARC) has revealed, a 6% increase from February 2023 and the second consecutive month to set a new ARC record. “Americans continue to prioritize domestic travel in the early part of the year, with year-over-year trips to US destinations outpacing those of international trips,” highlighted Steve Solomon, chief commercial officer at ARC. US domestic trips for the month reached a total of 15 million, up 11% from a year prior. However, international trips were still up 5% from February 2023, totalling 9.3 million. With total passenger trips for the month reaching a record 24.3 million, “airlines are seeing robust demand from both corporate and leisure travellers, signalling the continued health and anticipated growth for air travel in 2024,” added Solomon. February ancillary sales also increased 34% year over year to $29 million, with transactions increasing 47% to 476,633 over the same period.
