The U.S. Transportation Department (DOT) is reported to have tentatively awarded slots between Mexico and the US. Media reports state that Alaska Air Group, JetBlue Airways and Southwest Airlines have been awarded the slots, with Mexican low-cost carrier including Volaris, VivaAerobus and Interjet. However, no official reports have been issued to date.
Should the award be finalised, reports indicate that Alaska Air will operate flights connecting Mexico City’s Benito Juarez International Airport to San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego. JetBlue Airways will have six new slot pairs to Mexico City from Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, Florida, and Los Angeles. Southwest Airlines has four slot pairs connecting Mexico City to Houston, Fort Lauderdale and Los Angeles. Volaris has eight slot pairs at Benito Juarez International Airport to Los Angeles and Denver. Interjet and Volaris have one slot pair each between JFK and Mexico City, while VivaAerobus has two slot pair between the same destinations.
