US Airways Q3 profits dip

US Airways’ third-quarter profit dropped by 11.9% to $216 million although revenue rose by 9.1% to a record $3.9 billion.

The carrier capacity by 4.1% during the period since it replaced smaller, older aircraft with slightly larger equipment. Passenger revenue rose by 4.4%, with the load factor inching up by 0.6 percentage point to 85.5%. Unit revenue also grew 4.9%.

The dip in profit was impacted by that fact that US Airways paid $120 million in income taxes in the quarter, compared with only $1 million in the third quarter of 2012.
