US administration award $110 million in funding to improve 71 airports
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is awarding $110 million in bipartisan infrastructure law funding to 71 airports across the US to improve safety and expand capacity. It includes 74 grants to airports across 32 states to modernise airport and runway infrastructure, improve airfield safety, and create jobs. It is a part of US President Joe Biden's Investing in America agenda. Grants include $43 million for Charlotte Douglas International in North Carolina, over $600,000 for Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in Maryland, and over $300,000 for Omak Airport in Washington. ""This is another good step in a multi-billion dollar modernisation we're delivering through President Biden's bipartisan Infrastructure law to make America's aviation systems safer and more efficient,"" said US transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg. ""These grants help airports across the nation sustain and improve critical infrastructure to advance the safest, most efficient airport system in the world,"" said?FAA associate administrator for airports Shannetta Griffin. The funding is from the airport infrastructure grant (AIG) program, which began in 2022 and is set to provide $15bn over five years. So far, nearly $9bn has been made available through AIG funding.
