United Airlines has announced it will now charge $100 for a second checked bag for flights between North America, South America, Europe, India, the Middle East and Africa. The increase from $70, which had just been raised from $50 last year, is expected to cover the increased cost of fuel and handling.
The fee change does not apply to flights to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, or Central America.
The move will increase United's revenue by $30 million annually. Its competitors are expected to follow suit.
