United Airlines is seeking permission to operate seasonal flights in 2016 between San Francisco and Xi’an in China, utilizing a 787 aircraft three times a week.
United vice chairman and chief revenue officer Jim Compton has said: “So much of the demand growth out of China over the next five years is going to be from secondary cities… [the] 787 is the perfect aircraft to serve that developing market.”
The application is under review by the US Department of Transportation (DOT).
