United Airlines has received FAA certification for its first mainline aircraft equipped with Starlink, a superfast onboard Wi-Fi solution. The first commercial flight for the 737-800 aircraft is planned for October 15.
While a first for its mainline aircraft, United first installed Starlink on its regional E175 aircraft in March this year, with the first Starlink-equipped regional flight taking place in May.
"Customers are loving the Starlink experience onboard our regional aircraft, and our first Starlink-equipped mainline aircraft will bring a superior inflight experience to even more people," said Grant Milstead, vice president of digital technology at United.
United signed an agreement with SpaceX — the provider of Starlink — in September last year. The airline expects to have the Wi-Fi solution on all of its aircraft over the coming years.
