United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby has expressed newfound faith in Boeing after meeting its newly appointed leader.
Kirby said that he was ""encouraged"" by the American OEM leader Kelly Ortberg's words. He added: ""I also came away with a renewed confidence that Boeing is on the right path and will recover faster than most expect.""
The aircraft manufacturer named its new leader in July 2024, with Ortberg succeeding Dave Calhoun. Ortberg served as CEO and president at Rockwell Collins for five years from 2013. In addition, he helped navigate the company’s integration with United Technologies and RTX until his retirement from RTX in 2021. He has over 35 years of aerospace leadership experience.
""His engineering background at Rockwell Collins, combined with an instinct to be close to his frontline teams in Seattle, makes for a winning combination,"" continued Kirby.
Kirby's sentiment coincides with the aviation sector that have been clamouring for a Boeing leader with the engineering know-how. Ortberg holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Iowa. The United leader said Ortberg is committed to engaging with Boeing's employees as well as understanding the cultural shifts that Boeing requires to ""turn things around"".
