United Airlines has added a new feature to its loyalty programme by which members can pool their miles with friends or family into a joint account, the first major US airline to offer such a scheme.
Under the MileagePlus scheme, up to five members can share and redeem air miles via one linked account, with any individual able to redeem the miles and earn any eligible premier qualifying points. Although the pool creator must be over 18, there is no minimum age for additional members of the group; meaning parents or carers can collect miles earned by their children’s travel.
“MileagePlus miles pooling further reinforces United’s position as the leader in family and group travel and gives our members more flexibility to use their miles,” commented Luc Bondar, chief operating officer of MileagePlus.
