Suggestions that passengers arriving at UK airports will be compelled to enter a 14-day quarantine period as part of Government Covid-19 measures, was roundly rejected by Airlines UK, the industry association representing UK-registered carriers.
Speaking on UK television on Sunday the country’s transport minister had suggested introducing quarantine measure at airports as one route to end lockdown measures.
However, in a statement airlines UK said there would severe economic repressions from any such move, not just for the aviation sector but also the broader economy.
“This proposal would effectively kill international travel to and from the UK and cause immeasurable damage to the aviation industry and wider UK economy.
Nobody is going to go on holiday if they’re not able to resume normal life for 14 days, and business travel would be severely restricted.
It will also make it all but impossible for aviation to resume any time soon, thereby setting back the UK’s economic recovery still further,” said the industry group’s statement.
