Uganda Airlines returns to the skies after nearly 20 years

Uganda Airlines has returned to the skies to restore its status as the nation's carrier after a delay which lasted nearly 20 years.

Commercial services resumed with a flight from Entebbe to the Kenyan destination of Nairobi.

Uganda Airlines said its fleet of twin-engined Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jet airliners will soon connect to destinations including Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania, Mogadishu in Somalia and Juba in South Sudan.

At the time of the airline's closure in 2001, Uganda Airlines flew to eight destinations and had a fleet of 15 aircraft.

The airline suffered more than a decade of financial difficulties resulting in its liquidation.
