Turkish Airlines mulls Serbia purchase

Turkish Airlines is looking to ramp up its long haul routes and may consider purchasing new widebody aircraft in order to increase its number of flights to New York. Turkish CEO Temel Kotil has also suggested that the airline will consider acquisition opportunities and hinted that he was “working on” a possible deal for Serbian Airlines.

Kotil said that the airline was intended to nearly double its weekly flights and, even though it will complete the purchase of 90 aircraft by 2012, it will consider ordering A380s or 747s at a later date to cope with the increased capacity (See Aviation News THY story from Monday 27th September 2010) It is likely that THY will have to do a very good deal with Ex-Im and Boeing capital if they are to raise the funds for an aircraft deal at this time, this could well be the advantage for Boeing in this instance.
