Turkish Airlines launches SmartMic translation devices at airports
Turkish Airlines has launched new SmartMic devices at airports across Turkey, allowing non English-speaking passengers the opportunity to communicate with staff through a real-time translation service. A seven-inch screen on either side of the device allows staff and customers to follow the conversation, supporting 52 languages and 72 accents. “We are delighted to introduce this innovative SmartMic device, which allows our passengers to speak to our staff in their own language when transiting through Türkiye,” said Bilal Ek?i, Turkish Airlines CEO. The technology was first introduced by the airline in 2023, with 100 devices in use at Turkish airports of Andana, Ankara, Antalya, Bodrum, Dalaman, Istanbul and Izmir. They are due to be launched in the UK ‘shortly’ as part of a global expansion programme throughout 2024. Turkish Airlines currently serves 292 international and 52 domestic locations.
