Turkish Airlines confirms 20 aircraft lease deal; reports strong October traffic

Turkish Airlines has confirmed that as part of its continuing negotiates with aircraft manufacturers and various international lessors to support its ongoing growth trajectory and fleet renewal, the airline has decided to lease 20 narrowbody aircraft. Six will be delivered from CDB Aviation in between the first quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026, a further four will come from Jackson Square Aviation in the first quarter of 2025, while 10 aircraft will to be delivered from DAE Capital between the fourth quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025. A single widebody will be leased from CDB to be delivered in the second quarter of 2024.  

Meanwhile, the airline has reported a growth in traffic for the month of October with passenger numbers up by 10.9% to 7.4 million, compared to 6.6 million passengers in October 2022.  

During the period of October 2023, international to international passenger carried increased by 17.1% to 2.5 million from 2.2 million for the same period of 2022. 

Turkish Airlines load factor decreased by 2.5 point to 82.7% compared to same period of 2022. In the period of October 2023, the international flight load factor was 82.5% while the domestic load factor was 83.9%. 

Capacity, measured in ASKs, increased by 15.6% to 20.8 billion during the period of October 2023 from 18 billion for the same period of 2022. Cargo/Mail carried during the period of October 2023 increased by 9.4% to 157.6 thousand tons from 144.1 thousand tons in the same period of 2022. 

For the nine month period  January – October 2023, Turkish Airlines total number of passengers increased by 17.8% to 71.3 million, compared to 60.5 million passengers in the same period of 2022. 

Load factors increased by 2.8 points to 83.1% compared to prior year period, while ASK increased by 16.5 to 196.8 billion from 168.9 billion for the same period of 2022.
