Thai Flag carrier, Thai Airways, is set to sue Japanese manufacturer Koito Industries to seek compensation for delayed delivery of seats, a Thai Air executive said on Friday (Sept 24).
"We have to file a lawsuit against the company in accordance with legal process," Raj Tanta-Nanta, a vice-president for investor relations at the state-controlled carrier said. He did not indicate the size of the claims.
In June, Thai Airways' board selected Germany's Zim Flugsitz as seat supplier, replacing Koito which failed to provide seats in time, according to a statement released by Thai Airways.
Zim Flugsitz would supply economy-class seats for Thai Airway, the statement said. The German firm would supply seats for five A330-300s and the first delivery is expected from February, and the remainder would be gradually delivered until the middle of next year, Raj said.
Thai Airways had sent a letter to Koito to inform about the compensation, damage costs and loss of business opportunity, which was a result of Koito's failure to supply the final delivery for five new A330-300s, it said in a statement in July.
