Tajikistan buys Mexico’s Presidential Jet for $92 million

Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador declared the sale of presidential jet, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, to the government of Tajikistan for $92 million, almost half of the price for which it was originally brought. The announcement was made on social media.

Former Mexican President Felipe Calderón had acquired the aircraft for $218 million in 2012. So far, only one Mexican President, Enrique Peña Nieto has used the presidential Jet for about 214 flights totalling 600,000 kilometers.

Mexican Government is planning to build two hospitals with the funds raised from the sale of the aircraft in Tlapa and Tuxtepec, two economically weaker sections of the country.

In the social media post López Obrador said: “We got rid of this pending because it was tough for us to find a client. And we are happy; we are like the nouveau riche, who buy a yacht or an airplane like this one, and are happy only the day they use it for the first time and the day they sell it.”

The plane has a VIP interior with marble touches and is configured to carry only 80 people and has a presidential suite with a private bath.
