Swedavia names Mats Johannesson as new president and CEO

Swedavia has appointed Mats Johannesson as its new president and CEO, effective by early May 2026.

Current CEO Jonas Abrahamsson will stay in the role until no later than the end of February 2026.

Johannesson is currently the president and CEO of Team Olivia, is a company that provides home care and rehabilitation services across Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.

From 2017 to 2021, he served as CEO of MTR Express, a public transport company that operated the intercity railway line between Gothenburg and Stockholm.

Johannesson has held other management roles in logistics and transportation, and also holds a degree in civil engineering from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg.

“He has broad experience with leading large organisations and businesses, with a focus on results, quality, and not least communication,” said Ulrika Francke, chair of Swedavia.

Earlier this week, as covered by Airline Economics, the state-owned Swedish airport operator received an investment-grade credit rating of Baa1 from Moody’s.

It also unveiled plans for a new issuance of Swedish kronor-denominated hybrid capital securities, and committed to a new funds from operations to debt (FFO/debt) target, which will replace its previous debt-to-equity ratio target.

Last month, over three million passengers travelled via Swedavia's ten airports – a 5% increase over the same period last year.

At Stockholm Arlanda, Sweden’s largest airport, passenger traffic rose more than 9%, and the airport saw more international travellers than in the corresponding pre-pandemic month in 2019.
