Sun PhuQuoc Airways, a new airline from Vietnam’s Sun Group, has confirmed that its first commercial flights will take off on November 1, 2025.
Billing itself as the world’s first “resort airline”, Sun PhuQuoc Airways aims to connect the island of Phu Quoc with the rest of Vietnam and the world.
Initial routes will connect Phu Quoc with Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang. The airline will also fly the key domestic routes of Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City and Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang.
The airline's network will expand from December 2025, with additional routes from Hanoi to Da Nang and Cam Ranh to Phu Quoc.
The airline has already taken delivery of its first three aircraft, including Airbus A321NX and A321CEO models, out of a total of eight aircraft planned for operation in 2025.
The fleet will be expanded to 25 aircraft by the end of 2026 and 30–35 aircraft by 2027.
Nicknamed the ‘Pearl Island’, Phu Quoc was recognised by Vietnam's National Assembly as the country’s first island city in 2020.
In June 2025, Phu Quoc was further designated as a special administrative zone, giving local policymakers greater control over the island’s aviation and travel infrastructure.
In 2027, the island is set to host the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit - an event that typically sees more than 7,000 daily attendees and 30,000 total attendees.
