Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA), a new Vietnamese airline and part of the Sun Group, said it will operate A320 and A321 family aircraft, particularly the A321neo, Sun Group said on June 13, 2025. The airline is currently in negotiations with Boeing to purchase further aircraft.
The update comes as the airline was granted its air transport licence from the Ministry of Construction on the same day.
Sun Group said the airline brand represents a total investment capital of 2.5bn Vietnamese dong ($95 million).
Phu Quoc will serve as the airline's central hub, aiming to connect Vietnam's islands with cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and other “key cities”.
In addition, the airline is aiming at linking Phu Quoc internationally with cities in Japan, South Korea, China, and other cities in the Asia region. The company said it is aiming to expand to “untapped high-potential tourism markets” such as Russia, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Australia.
“Sun PhuQuoc Airways represents a strategic pillar in our vision to build a strategic pillar in our to build a world-class ecosystem of tourism, resort, entertainment, and aviation,” said Sun Group chairman of the director board Dang Minh Truong.
From March through the end of this year, the airline is in an “investment preparation phase”. This phase focusses on team building, technical infrastructure, and the completion of regulatory procedures.
The airline has already completed operational model research, safety protocol standardisation, and establishing HR framework.
