SUA initiates proceedings to become new flag carrier of Uruguay
Privately-owned company Sociedad Uruguaya de Aviación (SUA) has expressed its intention to launch a new Uruguayan national carrier. The MercoPress reports that the SUA has expressed its intention to submit the necessary documentation to commence operations in a letter addressed to president Luis Lacelle Pou and key ministers, with undersecretary of transport and public works Juan José Olaizola commenting: “We appreciate the good intentional and will wait for certification. Once finalized, they will receive our full support from the Ministry of Tourism”. Uruguay has not had a national carrier since PLUNA Líneas Aéreas Uruguayas ceased operations from its base at Carrasco International Airport, Montevideo, in 2012.
