The Star Alliance has moved quickly to re-establish connections to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana in the wake of its partner Adria Airways' collapse.
SWISS will be offering a new service to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana, departing five times weekly from its hub at Zurich Airport, commencing 16 October.
The service, which will use Airbus A220 aircraft, will then move to daily from 27 October.
This is the latest in a number of Star Alliance partner airlines moving to service Slovenian routes.
Lufthansa will operate twice-daily services from Frankfurt and daily services from Munich, commencing over 27 October - 1 November.
The group also points out that its carrier Austrian Airlines is offering several daily services from Vienna to the city of Klagenfurt, which lies about 65km from Ljubljana.
These will be flown by its CityLine regional operation using Bombardier CRJ900s.
Meanwhile, Belgian carrier Brussels Airlines has launched new flights to Ljubljana.
Brussels Airlines, which hasn’t mentioned Adria’s collapse as the reasoning behind its decision, will open a six-times-weekly service from Brussels from 4 November, using Airbus A319s.
Slovenia’s Adria Airways ceased all its flights on 30 September and went into liquidation the following day.
The Slovenian national airline struggled to return to profitability and filed for bankruptcy, after financial pressures led to days of disruption to its flight schedule.
Adria said in a statement: “Bankruptcy proceedings were filed by the management of the company due to the company’s insolvency.”
