London Stansted Airport has welcomed the increase in express train connections from the heart of the UK capital being offered by rail operator Greater Anglia.
Starting Monday 22, the number of Stansted Express trains running between the airport and Liverpool Street train station will be doubled to four an hour during weekday mornings and evenings.
The increase was agreed after the airport handled 2.4 million passengers in April 2023. its busiest month since September last year, and demand is expected to continue to rise moving into the summer.
“The reintroduction of four trains per hour between London and the airport during the morning and evening peaks is a really positive development," said Gareth Powell, the airport's managing director.
The announcement followed the recent upgrades to commuter services linking central London with Stansted competitor London Luton Airport.
Making airports more accessible means they have more chance of increasing passenger numbers, thereby offering them and the airlines operating from the airports a greater chance to up their revenues based on generating more traffic and potentially offering more routes as it becomes easier for passengers to get to the airports.
Stansted management called in late 2020 for more trains to be laid on to connect the airport to central London.
