SriLankan Airlines has doubled its daily flights between Colombo and Mumbai, expanding capacity and strengthening the airlines’ Indian network, following a visa change that will allow Indians to travel to Sri Lanka visa-free.
“With India fast becoming one of the world’s largest outbound travel markets, we are only happy to… make travel between Mumbai and Colombo extra seamless,” commented Dimuthu Tennakoon, head of worldwide sales and distribution of SriLankan Airlines. “Our frequency increase comes on the heels of Sri Lanka announcing free visa for Indian visitors,” he added.
The pilot visa programme, running until 31 March 2024, will allow free visas for the first 30 days. Alongside passengers from India, it also extends to travellers from China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand.
India is the only country with nine cities featured in SriLankan Airlines’ network, to which the national carrier operates close to 100 flights every week in total.
