Spirit Airlines and pilots in tentative deal, union says

Pilots working for Spirit Airlines have ratified a "tentative agreement" with the carrier amid negotiations about work contracts, the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) said on January 10.

Out of the 2,326 eligible pilots who voted, 69% voted for a new collective bargaining agreement. "The two-year deal represents an economic gain of US $463 million or 27% over the next two years, with zero concessions," according to ALPA.

The deal came after the airline in December offered pilots a 34% pay increase over two years.

The deal could be renegotiated if the carrier's proposed merger with JetBlue does not go ahead, the pilots said.
