Spirit AeroSystems has suspended its 2024 financial forecast as the component manufacturer faces ongoing safety issues in the wake of the Alaska 747 MAX incident.
“Over the past month, we have been working shoulder to shoulder with our customer to take a series of actions to strengthen our systems and processes to accelerate the improvement of our operations,” said Spirit president and chief executive Pat Shanahan, who joined the manufacturer last year following a lengthy career at Boeing.
Boeing also suspended its annual financial forecast last week. In a memo to employees, CEO Dave Calhoun stated: “While we often use this time of year to share or update our financial and operational objectives, now is not the time for that,” adding Boeing’s intention to “simply focus on every next airplane”.
