SpiceJet has been ordered by the Delhi High Court to return a leased engine to Belgium-based Engine Lease Finance BV by March 10, 2024. Inspections on the engine will be conducted by both parties individually on or before February 26, 2024.
SpiceJet's senior defendant attorney told the court that SpiceJet received the required guaranteed remittance waiver (GRW) from the concerned bank and has applied for customs clearance for transporting the aircraft engine to Brussels, Belgium.
The court document detailed how legal general manager for SpiceJet Om Kumar had been ""queried again, since he had indicated a different date of redelivery earlier even in the course of today's hearing."" Kumar confirmed SpiceJet would abide by the redelivery date of March 10, 2024.
The document said Engine Lease Finance's attorney had noted that ""the defendant has been dithering in relation to the redelivery of the aircraft engine."" The plaintiff had added that the defendant had previously committed to a January 25 delivery. The March 10 redelivery would surpass Engine Lease Finance BV's scheduled date for MRO services for the engine. The plaintiff's attorney added that ""the defendant's past conduct does not instil in the plaintiff any confidence that they would abide"" by the March 10 date.
The high court ruled that SpiceJet chairman and managing director Ajay Singh must file an affidavit within one week, committing to the March 10 redelivery date.
