Smiths Detection passenger scanner gets anti-terrorism designation in the US

UK-based Smiths Detection has announced that its CT passenger screening system, the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX, has been designated a "terrorism deterring technology" by the Department of Homeland Security in the US.

The designation came after the US government's Transport Security Administration’s (TSA) put the scanner on its list of qualified products to be used at airports.

"The HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX uses CT (computed tomography) imaging and advanced digital technology to produce high quality 3D X-rays of the contents of a cabin baggage," according to Smiths, which means, the company said, electronics and liquids can remain in bags, in turn "ncreasing passenger throughput and enhancing the overall passenger experience".

Smiths president Inder Reddy said the latest US approval marked a  "significant milestone" for the company.

"This is already one of the most widely deployed CT passenger checkpoints in the world, and with this designation we can give further confidence to our customers in the USA and around the globe on the quality of this equipment," Reddy said.
