UK-based technology and cellular network development company Smith Myers has partnered with UAE-based helicopter engineering and maintenance company AgustaWestland Aviation Services (AWAS) to retrofit Smith Myers' mobile phone detection, location and communication system, ARTEMIS, onto existing Leonardo helicopter users in the Middle East and North Africa regions.
“This partnership will build on the success of the UAE National Search & Rescue Centre program, where AWAS installed the ARTEMIS systems onto the existing fleet of NSRC AW139s,"" said AWAS managing director Angelo Vincenzo Carlino.
""With over 200 Leonardo helicopters in service in the region and with AWAS involvement in comprehensive upgrade programs with major customers in the region, the partnership will provide Leonardo’s operators simplified access to this unique technology,"" said Smith Myers managing director Andrew Munro.
ARTEMIS is designed to locate mobile telephones using two small antennas, detecting them at a range of up to 35km. It also provides mass-mapping and geofencing to minimise crew workload.
