SHORTAGE OF A380 PARTS A WORRY FOR AIRLINES

Rolls-Royce is busy preparing a replacement program for the component found to be defective on the A380 Trent 900 engines. The manufacturer will need at least 80 of the part, known as Module 51, to repair the current fleet of affected planes. However this number does not include spares or engines currently under assembly by Airbus. Airlines are reported by national media to be worried such an extensive inspection and replacement program of Rolls-Royce A380 engines could lead to a shortage of spares.

Spares may need to be harvested from engines in production to replace the affected operating engines which could impact delivery schedules for new aircraft and potentionally lead to delays in repairs in the future.

Rolls-Royce has announced it will completely replace jet engines suffering from oil leaks with new ones. The faulty part in the leaking engines will be then swapped back again.
